The Bryn Tyrch Inn at the western end of Capel Curig occupies a position of extraordinary quality — directly at the foot of the Glyderau, with the Snowdon Horseshoe visible down the valley and Tryfan's profile immediately above. The View
From the pub garden, the view southwest takes in Moel Siabod, the twin lakes of Llynnau Mymbyr, and on clear days the Snowdon Horseshoe above. To the northeast, the Glyderau rise directly above the village. Sitting here with a Welsh ale on a clear evening after a day on the mountains is one of those experiences that is disproportionately satisfying — the tired body, the cold beer, the mountains going purple in the fading light.
The Village
Capel Curig is the most mountain-centred village in Eryri — a single crossroads at 200 metres, surrounded by mountains on all sides, its two shops selling outdoor gear rather than postcards. Plas y Brenin, the national outdoor centre, is half a kilometre west. The village has been a walkers' and climbers' base since the early 19th century and shows no signs of changing.
