Eryri is one of Britain's great outdoor playgrounds. The combination of high mountains, ancient rock, glacial lakes, fast-flowing rivers and a coastline within easy reach makes it a destination for almost every type of outdoor pursuit — from gentle family cycling along converted railway paths to technical winter mountaineering on Crib Goch, and from early-morning wild swimming in mountain lakes to long trail runs along ridgelines with views to Ireland.

This section covers the major activities available across the national park. Whether you're looking for a challenging physical objective, a creative pursuit, or simply a different way to experience the landscape, Eryri offers exceptional opportunities for all of them.

Why Eryri for Outdoor Activities?

The geological variety of Eryri — ancient volcanic rock on Snowdon, ancient grey rhyolite on Tryfan, the great sweeping ridges of the Carneddau — creates different challenges and rewards for different pursuits. The density of good mountain terrain within a small area means it is possible to combine activities in a single visit: a morning scramble on Tryfan, a swim in Llyn Ogwen in the afternoon, and evening photographs of the light on the Glyderau. Few areas in Britain offer this concentration of quality across so many different disciplines.
